Savings remain reasonable. However, it is not enough as sole protection for entrepreneurial assets. Who wants to protect assets, must consider liquidity, purchasing power, risk, property, liability, succession and reputation together. A savings book can be a short-term reserve. It does not replace an asset structure.

The critical point is not whether money will be returned. What matters is whether the assets are in a structure that fits business risk, private situation, bankability, tax audit and long-term goal. This is where the difference between reserve and asset protection begins.

Why saving alone falls short today

A balance on account or savings book feels controllable. The amount is fixed, the bank is known, access is easy. This is important for everyday life. For entrepreneurs, however, it is only a building block.

Inflation changes purchasing power. Destatis measures the inflation rate via the consumer price index. For July 2026, the Federal Statistical Office reported an inflation rate of 2.8 percent compared to the same month last year. The Bundesbank explains the essence behind it simply: With high inflation, money investments lose purchasing power. Even nominally available money can do less in real terms.

This does not mean that liquid reserves are wrong. It just means that security is not just on the account statement. Security consists of access, purchasing power, separation of risks and robust documentation.

What Entrepreneurs Often Confuse With Wealth

Many asset decisions start with a product: account, securities portfolio, property, company, foundation, holding company or foreign company. The better starting point is the goal. Should liquidity be secured for six months? Should liability from operational business be limited? Should a sale be prepared? Should the family be protected? Should a shareholding be kept clearly separated? Each answer leads to different tests.

In the case of investments, BaFin describes the conflict of objectives between security, return and availability. The more emphasis is placed on one objective, the more pressure is created on the other objectives. For entrepreneurs, there is a fourth point: structure. An asset can be computationally meaningful and still be wrong if property, access, liability, bank and tax treatment do not match.

A typical mistake is to equate asset protection with maximum foreclosure. Excessive foreclosure can make banking conversations, evidence, tax audit, place of management, compliance and reputation more difficult. Asset protection does not mean making assets invisible. asset protection means arranging it in a comprehensible, resilient and appropriate way.

Budapest tools: the practical decision-making process

The Budapester works with a simple thinking framework for such questions. The Budapest tools are not legal instruments. They help to clarify the order before consultant, notary, bank or tax consultancy go into implementation.

Objective before legal form

A holding, foundation, cooperative or foreign company is not an end in itself. First there is the question of which problem should be solved: operational liability, shareholding arrangements, succession, investment ability, discretion, bankability or crisis resistance.

Separate ownership of risk

Operational risk and long-term assets should not fall into the same pot unchecked. This can concern a shareholding structure, a holding structure or another solution. Which form fits depends on the individual case and must be technically tested.

Conscious about liquidity

Liquidity is not an opponent of structure. Without a liquid reserve, there is often pressure to act in a crisis. The mistake lies not in saving, but in the belief that saving alone is sufficient for asset protection.

Country logic instead of wish image

Dubai, Cyprus, Malta, Gibraltar, Moldova or a US LLC often sound easier in advertising than they are for entrepreneurs with a focus in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. place of management, substance, tax residence, bank, contracts and contact with authorities decide on sustainability. A country does not solve a structural problem automatically.

What questions should be clarified before each asset structure

A sober inventory should be available before a decision is made. This list does not replace advice, but shows the correct order:

  • Which assets belong to the private sector, which to the company?
  • Which risks arise from management, liability, shareholders, bank, contracts or authorities?
  • What liquidity must remain available in the short term?
  • Which assets should be held, sold or transferred in the long term?
  • What proofs await bank, tax consultancy, notary and authorities?
  • Which countries are actually involved: residence, place of management, customers, bank, employees, real estate, holdings?
  • What role does reputation play when a crisis becomes publicly visible?

The benefit of this test does not lie in a spectacular solution. The benefit is to avoid unnecessary detours. A structure that has to be explained only after the bank date, after the shareholder conflict or after the tax consultation often comes too late.

Where The Budapester coordinates

The Budapester arranges goals, stakeholders, documents, order and open testing centres. This includes a view of the company, holding structure, asset protection, reputation, crisis resistance and country reference. The implementation does not take place as legal or tax advice by The Budapester.

Legal and tax assessments belong to licensed professionals. If necessary, The Budapester puts together the right team and coordinates routes, documents, appointments and communication. This is especially important when private asset issues, corporate structure, banking issues and family succession are simultaneously touched upon.

More about the working method in the The Budapester’s methodology. Anyone who is about to start up, hold or reorganize will find the practical process under Services and Setup. To the person behind the coordination leads the page Norbert Péter.

Differentiation: no investment advice, no tax solution

This article provides guidance. It does not recommend no investment product, no concrete form of company, no country and no tax structure. Whether a holding, foundation, cooperative, international company or purely private asset regime makes sense depends on the individual case.

Caution is especially required when promoting a solution with quick tax savings, anonymity, guaranteed security or a simple foreign address. Load-bearing structures require traceability. This is less spectacular, but much more resilient.

Next step

Anyone who wants to protect assets should not start with a product, but with an inventory. What should be protected? What? For whom? In which country? With what liquidity? And with what evidence?

Only then is it worth looking at holding structure, participation, foundation, cooperative, successor or international components. The Budapester coordinates this check structure and puts the authorised professionals in the right order.
