Short answer: I consider a company abroad in 2026 not to be an escape from responsibility, but to be a serious structural issue. Yes, a foreign company can offer more practical opportunities compared to a company in its own country. Especially when everyday life in Germany or Austria is shaped more and more narrowly by proof, reporting obligations, documentation, bank specifications, tax assessments and ongoing administration. That is precisely why this thesis must not be understood superficially. Anyone who works abroad must have real leadership, clean documentation and professional testing.
I have seen for years how entrepreneurs first talk about taxes, even though the real problem lies elsewhere. It’s about mobility. The question is whether a company remains capable of acting, whether banking channels work, whether invoices run cleanly, whether decisions are clearly made and whether documents in a review stand. In Germany, more and more requirements are added. Digital invoicing, proof obligations, reporting questions, documentation and ongoing coordination cost time, nerves and often staff. This development does not stop.
The simple thesis is therefore: Who does not necessarily have to keep his economic needs and his entrepreneurial activity in his own country, should seriously examine a company abroad. Not as a trick. Not as a promise. But as a possible framework for more practical freedom, more suitable processes and a different economic environment.
Why I wouldn’t digress the initial thesis
In many discussions about foreign companies, the warning reflex immediately comes. The reflex is understandable, but it falls short. There are countries in which certain things in everyday life run more normally, faster or more pragmatically than in Germany or Austria. This is not just about taxes. It concerns banking conversations, register channels, contract culture, local service providers, digital administration, foundation practice, ongoing accounting and the question of whether an entrepreneur can really work with his structure.
A location abroad can therefore offer more opportunities. This statement is legitimate. It only gets wrong if it results in a blanket commitment. A country is not an shortcut. A company is not a shield, as soon as decisions, customers, residence, bank, staff and assets in reality remain in the old environment.
The point is narrow but important. I would never argue that a foreign company automatically means less taxes, fewer duties or less risk. However, I would also not claim that the entrepreneur has to keep his structures in an environment that practically slows him down if a real alternative can be built up in a technically viable manner.
Responsibility does not disappear, it becomes more accurate
Anyone who founds abroad must make the responsibility more precise. Where is it led? Who decides? Who signs? Where are contracts? Which bank understands the model? Who runs the accounting? What evidence is produced each month? What is the role of residence? What role do German customers, German employees or German assets have?
These questions are uncomfortable, but they protect against false solutions. A company abroad needs real leadership. I do not mean just a name in the register. I mean a comprehensible process: decision, contract, invoice, payment, booking, filing, communication and professional evaluation must fit together.
Especially entrepreneurs with a connection to Germany are not allowed to take the place of management lightly. The tax code distinguishes between the seat and the place of management. Increased duties of cooperation may apply in the case of conduct abroad. The Foreign Tax Act can also become relevant depending on participation, income and influence. These points belong to tax consultants, lawyers, auditors or other competent professionals. I can only arrange the preparation so that this examination is meaningfully possible.
What to Claim Before a Foreign Company
I don’t start with the country. Let me start with the need. Should the company operate? Should it hold holdings? Should it open up a target market? Should it separate assets and operational risk? Should it make succession, banking ability or international cooperation easier?
Then comes the inventory. Existing company contracts, shareholdings, managerial roles, bank accounts, loans, customer contracts, supplier relationships, open procedures, tax assessments, accounting, rental contracts, powers of attorney and ongoing obligations are on the table. Only then can we see whether a new foreign company has a real task or is only intended as a label.
A robust model also needs a monthly routine. Who collects evidence? Who checks the bills? Who is talking to the bank? Who creates the accounting? Who knows deadlines? Who can explain what happened when asked within a few days? A structure that only looks good at incorporation is not enough.
Which country logic I find useful
I do not start with a country idealisation. Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, England or other locations can be useful in individual cases. Dubai, Cyprus, Malta, Gibraltar, Moldova or a US LLC can also be discussed. But the better question is not: where does it sound most attractive? The better question is: where does real activity fit in?
Language, bank, accounting, register, stay, customer relationships, business partner, trust level and ongoing management often decide more than a single tax rate. An entrepreneur who leads out of Germany every day and uses only one foreign address does not build a stable model. An entrepreneur who relocates activity, leadership, documents and banking skills neatly abroad or rebuilds them has a different starting position.
Again, there is no blanket answer. All I see is that many are too late in distinguishing between real relocation, real expansion, holding logic, mere administrative easing and a mere hope of less access. This distinction belongs at the beginning.
Germany often remains involved
A foreign company does not automatically sever German connections. Residence, family, management, customers, assets, participations, loans, employees or banks can continue to Germany. Austria and Switzerland have their own rules and their own assessment points. Therefore, it is not enough to look at a foundation form.
Nevertheless, I think it is wrong to turn this complexity into a thought block. The fact that a structure must be checked does not mean that it is pointless. It just means that it must be taken seriously. Especially in 2026, this seriousness becomes more important, because documentation and evidence are more in the focus.
My practical path
First, I clarify the economic purpose. Secondly, I separate wish and actual process. Thirdly, I check which functions remain at home and which actually belong abroad. Fourth, I collect documents so that a tax consultant or lawyer does not start from scratch. In the future, bankability is considered early, because a company without a functioning banking relationship quickly becomes worthless in everyday life.
This process is deliberately breathing. No quick solution, no tax commitment, no promise of protection. A clear thesis: A foreign company can be a meaningful way for entrepreneurs with a connection to Germany or Austria if it opens up real possibilities and at the same time is cleanly managed, documented and checked.
Anyone who wants to technically test Hungary as a location can also HUNCONSULT include. The methodology and setup pages remain Method and Setup helpful, without this being followed by a blanket recommendation for a specific location.
